Understanding How to Produce Seedlings in Paperpot with quality

Understanding the Root System

Good root systems start in the nursery:

In the rooting and propagation stage, the Containers/Pots, substrates, trays, irrigation, luminosity, temperature, among other parameters, will influence the quality of the future plant. In order to have a good root system, it is necessary to understand their development in the different containers, in this case the aerial pruning, Paper-Pot.

The main functions of the roots are:

• Fix the plant to the ground;

• Absorb water and mineral salts from the soil to the plant and conduct it to the aerial part;

• Nutrients reservation.
As for the origin of the root we have:

• Normal: Originates from the radicle of the embryo, at germination;

• Adventitia: Originates from the stem or leaves. They are fixed to the ground, helping with support.
As for the environment, we will only consider the terrestrial roots, in this case we have:

• Axial or Pivoting (Dicotyledons) à It has a main root from which lateral roots depart.

• Hair (Monocots) à Formed by fine roots that originate directly from the stem.

• Tuberose à Store nutritious substances, such as cassava, beetroot, etc.
